Means of Writing
December 3rd, 2008
Peter De Vries said: “I love being a writer. What I can’t stand is the paperwork.” What do you think about these words? Can it be interesting for writers of modern times? In fact, it is rather interesting question. Writers are people whose work is connected with pens or pencils and sheets of paper. Traditional image of talented writer is the table covered with thousand of sheets of paper, pens and pencils and full wastepaper basket. Is this image relevant for present times? Nowadays we live in the epoch of technical progress and such device as laptop is not a strange thing for many people. In fact, there are people who almost forget how to write with pen on paper, because all writing activity they make by means of laptop. Today the main part of correspondence both business and personal is carried out through e-mail or other ways of communication provided by the Internet.
So, what is more suitable for writers of present days – laptop, typewriter or pen and paper? In fact, everything depends upon the writer. Writers are creative people and they choose those means, which are the most convenient for them. There are writers who are quite advanced and they use laptop, because it is really convenient to create things by means of it. There are writers who prefer typewriter because it makes them something like an inspiration. And there are really interesting writers who still prefer pen and papers. It is possible to say that poets may belong to the last type of writers, because it is not easy to write a novel with pen and paper.
